About The Rev. Patterson

The Rev. Timothy Patterson grew up in Wellesley, Massachusetts and came south to attend Duke University, graduating with his B. A. in 1975 (magna cum laude) and his M.Div. from Duke Divinity School in 1980. It was at Duke that Tim met and married a fellow Divinity School classmate, Kathleen Forbes. After varied experiences working with autistic young people, serving as a Hospice volunteer, completing two years of Clinical Pastoral Education, and working over five years as a psychiatric counselor, Tim followed the call into ordained ministry. He returned to school in 1989 at General Theological Seminary in New York City to fulfill the ordination requirement for Anglican studies and completed the two-year program in Spiritual Direction at the Center for Christian Spirituality. Tim came to Greensboro in 1989 to serve as Assistant to the Rector at Holy Trinity and was ordained as a priest in 1990.

Throughout his ministry at Holy Trinity, Tim has maintained a dual focus: the journey inward, deepening the life of prayer and providing opportunities for genuine spiritual growth and formation; and the journey outward, helping members to discern their spiritual gifts and personal calling and providing opportunities to participate in some form of life-giving service in the world. During his time at Holy Trinity, Tim has helped establish Holy Trinity Music School, the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, the Journey to Adulthood program, the Glory Ridge ministry, and a variety of creative outreach efforts. Tim has also taken a leadership role in ecumenical ministries in the community, being primary founder of both the Guilford Regional AIDS Interfaith Network and the Servant Leadership School of Greensboro. Tim was called as Rector of Holy Trinity at the end of 1996.
