Becoming an Anti-Racist Church: Journeying toward Wholeness by Joseph Barndt

Current literature reminds us that the opposite of racist isn’t un-racist or not racist – but anti-racist. In this season of Epiphany, we celebrate the manifestation of Jesus’ identity as the one who has come to usher the whole of creation into a new existence. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, our places as members of the Body of Christ, call us to continue that work in our own day and age. The Vestry’s statement on racism implores us as a parish to seek ways to live into this new reality, where there is neither Greek nor Jew nor slave nor free.

In an effort to familiarize ourselves with the work of anti-racism in the Church and discern our own parts in the ongoing work, this Epiphany we begin a parish-wide book study on Becoming an Anti-Racist Church: Journeying toward Wholeness. Clergy and members of the Beloved Community Taskforce will be facilitating these Zoom conversations. Please click this link to sign up to receive the necessary Zoom information.

Please make sure to have read the required reading in advance of each online gathering.  The book is available from all major booksellers.
