Adult Christian Formation

Sunday morning classes for adults are a great way to make friends, learn about our faith and our world, and find new ways to apply spiritual principles to your life. Anyone is welcome to join a class at any time. This fall, a lecture class will meet at 10 - 10:45 a.m in Haywood Duke. We welcome Dr. Christopher Hodgkins, Professor of Renaissance Literature and Atlantic World Studies, UNC-G as he presents “A Man after God: The Episc Life of David in Samuel and Kings.”

David (c. 1040-971 B.C.) lived a long and amazingly eventful life, and is in the top tier of the greatest figures in history—those who have had the widest conceivable impact. He was a youngest son, shepherd, poet, composer, singer, soldier, prophet, friend, courtier, general, lover, husband, father, resistance leader, conqueror and king. He also was an exile, outlaw, bandit, turncoat, polygamist, adulterer, murderer, and failed parent. And he was the direct ancestor of the Son of David, the Anointed, Jesus Christ. During this ten-week series (September 12-November 21, excluding October 10) we will reflect on the many seasons in David’s life and learn more about what his life can teach us about God’s character, about human nature, about our relationship with God, and about the seasons of our own lives.
