Drawing the Mandala Workshop
Saturday, September 25, 2010, 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM
The Servant Leadership School of Greensboro will host a workshop entitled Drawing the Mandala: Art as Contemplative Practice on Saturday, September 25 from 9:30 a.m.—1 p.m. in Broome Hall.
The circle is the most universal of human symbols. From Tibetan sand paintings to the medieval cathedrals of Europe, it is found in the arts, architecture and spiritual traditions of cultures worldwide. In the psyche it represents wholeness, unity, and infinity.
Mandala is a Sanskrit word for circle. As an art form mandalas are a gift from Tibetan culture, wherein their creation is a visual form of prayer. This mindful experience can be transformational. As a practice, the process often brings healing, peace, clarity, and joy. The circle becomes a container for memories, emotions, and dreams as we connect to the Creative Source.
This workshop is a guided exploration using shape, color, and light to produce a personal mandala. Participants will view circular designs from diverse cultures, consider color and shape symbolism, engage in visualization, and apply their creative energy to this heart-opening process.
Led by: Vicki Longhofer, artist, educator, and Certified Veriditas Labyrinth Facilitator.
