Spiritual Direction & Coaching

Many people today want to grow in their personal and spiritual lives. Among other things, they wonder, “Should I seek a guide to help me on my way?”

Spiritual direction and Coaching are two different forms of guidance that can be useful to people in their life journeys. The professionals listed below have a relationship with The Servant Leadership School of Greensboro, and we recommend their services to you as skilled and insightful guides for the journey.

Spiritual Directors

Spiritual direction is a form of soul companionship offered by a fellow person of faith, to help you pay attention to God's presence and activity in your life, to grow in intimacy with God, and to assist you in the discernment of a possible call. Spiritual direction is focused on your relationship with God. In spiritual direction, the true spiritual director is God, and the human spritiual director serves as more of a guide to help you to respond to God's invitation into deeper relationship. In spiritual direction, you may explore questions like:

  • Where do I see God's presence in my life right now?
  • How do I interpret my experience of God (in prayer, dreams, etc)?
  • What part of my spiritual life needs strengthening?
  • What does a deeper relationship with God look like?
  • Who is God calling me to be/become?

As an Episcopal priest, I have worked with clergy and lay leaders ranging in ages from 20 to 80.

Duke's desire is to identify with you where you are in relation to God and what God is inviting you to for your next step.

Training in Spiritual Direction and Other Background: Duke has diverse roots within the Christian tradition. He focused on developing a life of prayer while in seminary. His doctoral research focused on the intersection of Benedictine and Ecumenical Spirituality, as well as various schools of psychology - coming to describe their intersection as The Living Trinity (or, as Duke says, “transformative intimacy”). Offering spiritual direction for the last 10 years from Texas to North Carolina, Duke has been committed to doing his own work and participating in The Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation, Christian Healing Ministries, Richard Rohr's Men's Rite of Passage, a Clinical Pastoral Education, a residency with a focus in cardiac units, and being in ongoing spiritual direction himself. Coaching

Coaching is a pragmatic and goal-oriented approach to personal development, in which someone spends time learning about and helping you to evaluate the specific issues, barriers, and limitations you may face in relation to particular wellness goals you have for your life. The coach will then assist you in mapping out deliberate, incremental steps towards that goal, while also providing support, encouragement, and accountability along the way. In coaching, you may explore questions like:

  • How can I pursue a specific career change that moves me in the direction of my life's sacred purpose?
  • How can I arrange my life to engage in spiritual practices that nourish me?
  • How can I achieve a greater sense of physical, emotional, and mental wellness?
  • How can I make specific health changes such as lose weight/exercise more/quit smoking?

The Rev. Tricia de Beer, D.Min., M.Div.

2905 Wynnewood Dr.
Greensboro, NC 27408

781-652-1503
triciadebeercoach.com

Areas of Coaching Expertise: Reducing our resistance to change, working with programs for emotional happiness that do not serve us, transitions, vocational discernment

Training in Coaching and Other Background: Trained Spiritual Director through the Shalem Institute, specializing in the connection of one's spiritual resources with the work toward becoming one's true self. Certified by the founders of Immunity to Change (mindsatwork.com).

Location Where Coaching Takes Place: In my home office

Times Available: Flexible

Any Other Useful Logistics: The coaching I do is a high investment process that gets quickly to the heart of the matter. It also creates results which endure. Increased freedom, flexibility, and courage is what I see. The reason is that we are looking at both the practical aspects of how to make change in behavior and at the hidden mindset that holds us captive.

I prefer to meet with people twice a month for a period of approximately 4-5 months, but this is flexible. Each session is 60-90 minutes and the client comes with reflection on new behaviors undertaken between sessions (this can be written or verbal). Clients should expect to spend 45-60 minutes per week on this process in addition to the twice monthly meetings.

I am available for one session on a complimentary basis to explore the goal and give the client a sense of how we would work together.  The coaching arc of 10 sessions is $1500.

I am also available to do coaching in pods of 2 or 3. For those who are looking for a way to do this work less expensively, if you can find one or two friends who are also interested, you may then split the cost. So, for a pod of three, each person would pay $500 for 10 sessions.
