Holy Trinity Calls A New Rector

Posted by Holy Trinity on

We are thrilled to announce that The Reverend David Alton Umphlett has accepted our Vestry’s call to become the next Rector of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.  David, his wife Lorinda, and their three boys, James (14), Parker (9) and Thomas (6) will be joining our Holy Trinity family on October 1, 2020.  David currently serves as Rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in High Point, NC.

Who could have predicted that our national search, attracting applicants from 11 states, would lead to finding the perfect fit for Holy Trinity’s next rector less than 20 miles away?

The Search Committee listened carefully to our parishioners in what we were seeking in our next rector.  David is passionate about liturgy and has a deep understanding of music as worship.  He brings vision to outreach, innovation to stewardship, and a strong commitment to pastoral care. David will deepen relationships, will work side by side with us, will be fully present with us, and will build community.

A native of Wilmington, NC, David graduated from UNC - Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Music in Performance with Honors (a percussionist!).  He received his Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2004. In the days ahead, look for many more details about David and his remarkable ministry that we will be sharing via emails, links in the weekly Epistle newsletter, and posts on social media.
