Barnabas Furniture Ministry is an ecumenical partnership which is supported by Holy Trinity financially and with volunteers. The Barnabas Furniture Ministry collects usable furniture and household items and operates a warehouse where approved clients can shop for furniture and other needed household goods that they could not otherwise afford. Clients are referred for help through GIHN, GHC, GUM and other local agencies. Help is needed to staff the warehouse, answer the phone, file, and do computer entry. Hours are 9 a.m.–Noon on weekdays. Training is provided.
Guilford Interfaith Hospitality Network, an ecumenical ministry, connects the faith-based community with homeless families. The Network’s goal is to provide temporary overnight shelter, meals, encouragement and assistance to families as they attempt to find permanent housing and employment. Four times each year, volunteers assist in preparing and serving meals, setting up beds or rooms at the host church, socializing with families, providing overnight support and helping children with homework, playing games or reading stories. Volunteer opportunities vary from supporting roles to interacting directly with the families.
Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical effort to build homes for families living in substandard housing. Laborers of all skill levels are needed, including ones with no skill at all. Training is provided. Volunteers are needed on Saturdays as well as during the week. The Habitat ReStore, which sells donated merchandise, uses volunteers as well. Holy Trinity also participates in the Habitat in Honduras project with building and land acquisition.
Holy Trinity Furniture Ministry collects usable furniture and other essential household items and redistributes them to residents in Holy Trinity’s transitional housing ministry and to others seeking assistance. The Furniture Ministry also uses volunteers to pick up and deliver donations and to move furniture. Hours are flexible, but the ministry particularly needs volunteers with trucks.
Holy Trinity Transitional Housing seeks to support both families who have temporarily lost their homes and refugees from foreign countries. Our support emphasizes ways that will help the return to self-sufficiency and may include food, furniture, clothing, and assistance in referrals to proper day care, health care, education, and vocational training. Holy Trinity oversees two buildings: a single family dwelling on Simpson Street and a duplex on West Smith Street.
