Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I find Holy Trinity?

Click here for a map and driving directions.

  • When are worship services?

  • Can I take communion?

All baptized Christians, regardless of denomination, are welcome to receive Eucharist, or Holy Communion. Those not baptized or who choose not to receive communion are invited to come to the altar rail to receive a blessing.

  • How do I become a member?

We welcome anyone who would like to worship with us and hope you will take part in the life of the Church. If you would like to be a formal member of Holy Trinity, please let us know. Contact Mark Lile-King, Minister of Engagement and Outreach, 336-272-6149 ext. 272, or mark@holy-trinity.com.

If you do not have church membership elsewhere and have never been baptized but want to become a member, please contact one of the clergy about receiving the sacrament of Baptism. You would then become a baptized member of Holy Trinity.

If you have been baptized in a Christian church, Holy Trinity can request a transfer from your church and you will be listed in Holy Trinity’s records as a baptized member. You will be considered a member of Holy Trinity, but not an Episcopalian.

If you are a confirmed Episcopalian, we will contact your former church for a membership transfer.

If you have been confirmed in the Catholic Church or in a church in communion with the Episcopal Church, you can be received by the Bishop during a confirmation service. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, at 336-272-6149 ext. 223 or annie@holy-trinity.com to determine whether you can be received or need to be confirmed.

To become an Episcopalian, you will need to be confirmed or received. Adults who would like to be confirmed are asked to attend Confirmation class before being confirmed at the Bishop’s next visit, which is usually in June. Adults interested in Confirmation should contact a clergy member listed in the staff directory.

  • What do you offer for children and teens?

Children and youth at Holy Trinity are encouraged to participate in all facets of Parish life. Our age-appropriate classes and programs incorporate the use of both traditional curricula and contemplative practices designed to foster in our young people a more intimate, personal sense of God. In addition, we offer periodic events that educate parents about ways to encourage spirituality at home. There are many fellowship opportunities for the whole family. Learn more about family ministries here and Episcopal Youth Community here.

  • Can I get married at Holy Trinity?

Anyone who would like to be married at Holy Trinity must be – for at least one year prior to the wedding – a member who is a communicant in good standing, the child of a member who is a communicant in good standing, or transferring in as a communicant in good standing from another parish.

Members in good standing are defined as “communicants of this Church, who for the previous year have been faithful in corporate worship, unless for good cause prevented, and have been faithful in working, praying, and giving for the spread of the Kingdom of God, are to be considered communicants in good standing.” (Title I, Canon 17, Sec. 3)

Anyone who is not a communicant in good standing at Holy Trinity can talk with one of the clergy about classes to begin the journey of becoming an active participant in the life of the Church.

Brides should not begin planning a wedding until the priest, organist, church, and date are secured through Liturgical Coordinator Annie Slaughter.

  • Can my child be baptized at Holy Trinity?

Holy Baptism for adults, children, or infants may be scheduled at the 9 a.m. or 11:15 a.m. service on one of these Sundays: The Easter Vigil, The Day of Pentecost, Trinity Sunday, The Feast of St. Mary the Virgin, All Saints' Sunday, Christ the King Sunday, and on the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (the first Sunday after the Epiphany). There is a required Baptism workshop the Saturday immediately preceding the Sunday of the Baptism. Please contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Assistant, 336-272-6149, ext. 229 or annie@holy-trinity.com.

  • How do I plan a funeral?

If you are planning a funeral for a loved one who has already passed away, or whose death is imminent, please contact a member of the clergy as soon as possible. Final plans will be made and a date for the service set after a clergy member meets with the family.

The Book of Common Prayer notes on page 507, “The liturgy for the dead is an Easter liturgy. It finds all its meaning in the resurrection. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we, too, shall be raised.”

A funeral service in the Episcopal Church is a worship service. Because our time on Earth is a gift from God, the Church celebrates that – from baptism, to confirmation, to marriage, to a funeral.

Holy Trinity encourages parishioners to plan for their own funerals. Death is often unexpected, and is always a time of sorrow. Planning your own funeral with the assistance of the clergy and having these plans on file in the Church Office is a deeply faithful and meaningful act, and can be a comfort to remaining family.

Anyone can meet with a clergy member to discuss the planning process. More information is available here in this printable document.
