Holy Trinity Foundation

In 1995, Joseph M. Bryan, a Greensboro businessman and philanthropist, left $100,000 to Holy Trinity in his will with the stipulation that it go into the Holy Trinity Endowment. There was no such thing at the time, so the Vestry voted at the December 1995 meeting to start an endowment, and the Holy Trinity Foundation was incorporated on May 19, 1998.

The Holy Trinity Foundation is governed by an independent board made up of the Senior Warden, two representatives elected by the Vestry, and four at-large members elected by the Foundation Board. The Rector and Treasurer serve as ex-officio members of the board, which elects its own president and secretary.

In 2023, the Foundation board adopted a spending policy that establishes a consistent process for approving distributions from the Foundation that honor the wishes of donors while preserving the financial standing of the Foundation. There is a stipulation that no foundation funds can be loaned to the church or any other entity. The Foundation also created consistent endowment fund agreements that include the history and purpose of each fund. There are 12 named funds in the Holy Trinity Foundation:

  • The Bryan Unrestricted Fund includes the original Bryan bequest and other gifts over the years.
  • The Buildings and Grounds Endowment, to be established in 2024, will be funded with $1.2 million from the 2022 Second Century Capital Campaign.
