Pilgrimage Reunion: Past and future pilgrims are invited to a community potluck! Reconnect, learn about upcoming pilgrimages, and discover how to join the journey. Thursday, Jan. 14, 6 p.m.
Pilgrimage in the Holy Land: Join Bishop Sam Rodman, Bishop Anne Hodges-Copple, and Father David Umphlett on a pilgrimage in the Land of the Holy One. We will visit locations associated with Jesus’ earthly ministry such as Jerusalem, the Galilee, and Bethlehem. Significant time will be spent with our Anglican brothers and sisters living in the Holy Land to learn about their daily life and to offer a ministry of presence and friendship. As their numbers continue to decrease, every moment spent with them is an affirmation of their place in the birthplace of the faith and to our abiding gratefulness for their steadfastness. Thomas Merton Contemplative Pilgrimage: Join a Lenten journey to the Abbey of Gethsemani in Trappist, KY where Merton lived for 27 years. The group will also travel to Louisville, KY to visit the Merton Center, the site of Merton’s Epiphany, and join together for a peace walk to Jefferson Square Park. Lent 2027
Grace & Gardens in England’s “Green and Pleasant Land”: Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) is pleased to join Holy Trinity and the Rev. David Umphlett for “A New Grace & Gardens in England’s ‘green and pleasant land.’” For about 10 years, the Very Rev Ian S. Markham, PhD, VTS’ Dean & President, has been leading pilgrims in his native land. Dean Markham—with the Rev J. Barney Hawkins and in consultation with Fr. Umphlett—is excited about a new itinerary which includes Bath with the American Museum & Gardens, Salisbury Cathedral and Wells Cathedral. We will still enjoy London, adding the Bayeux Tapestry on loan to the British Museum; and also with behind-the-scenes visit to St. Paul’s and Westminster Abbey. A highlight will be matins at Lambeth Palace followed by a garden visit and a visit with the Archbishop of Canterbury. Learn more here. April 18 – 28, 2027
Spring Appalachian Trail Pilgrimage: Join us for a three-day backpacking pilgrimage along a section of the Appalachian Trail, where we will walk with spring as wildflowers emerge and trail magic awaits. With fully loaded backpacks, we will hike from campsite to campsite, journeying together one step at a time. May 14-16, 2027
