Serve During Worship
Acolytes: All youth in 5th-12th grade are invited to become acolytes. Please let Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, know if you would like to join the acolyte program. There is a required training session for acolytes every fall. Contact Annie at annie@holy-trinity.com or 336-272-6149 ext. 239.
Altar Guild provides an opportunity to learn more about the rich traditions of our Episcopal heritage. The Altar Guild makes the church and chapel ready for worship by putting out liturgical items, linens, and special hangings as the season requires. The time commitment is about three hours per month on Saturday mornings and before or after one of the Sunday services with occasional time during the week for special services. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, annie@holy-trinity.com; 336-272-6149 ext. 239.
Celestial Choir: The Celestial Choir is an “ad hoc” group of singers who sing hymns and lead the liturgy at funerals. If you like to sing with a group and have time available during the day, this is an excellent opportunity to minister to bereaved Holy Trinity families. Celestial Choir members are contacted by email or phone when needed, usually a few days in advance. Members arrive 30 minutes prior to the service to vest and review the chosen hymns. This special ministry supports our own at a difficult time in their lives. To sign up, contact Ann Cantrell at eanncantrell@gmail.com.
Chalicists: Chalice Bearers, also known as Chalicists, are men and women of the parish who assist the priests by serving the chalice of wine at communion. They vest in cassock and surplice and sit in the sanctuary during the service. Chalice Bearers require appointment by the Rector and licensing by the Bishop for a two-year term. They serve once or twice a month. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, annie@holy-trinity.com; 336-272-6149 ext. 239.
Children & Youth Choir: The Children & Youth Choir is for anyone in kindergarten through 12th grade who loves to sing. The choir rehearses most Sundays from noon to 12:45 p.m. in Broome Hall (from September to May) and sings during worship throughout the year. To get involved, contact Dr. Sarah Taylor at sarahlovetaylor@gmail.com.
Greens Guild: The Holy Trinity Greens Guild beautifies the church with fresh green arrangements, gathered from nature, for the altars and the Baptistry. We are organized into teams and work in two-week shifts throughout the year with training provided for new members. Contact Peggy Follin at pfollin@triad.rr.com or Ann Vaughn at alv11950@bellsouth.net.
Intercessory Prayer: For those requesting private prayer, a group of nearly 30 intercessors reverently offer prayers. Confidentiality is important to many and is observed and maintained by the intercessors. Gale Robins monitors the private prayer requests, communicating by email with the group. Private prayer requests can be given to any staff member and/or emailed to Gale at galerobins1946@gmail.com. Additional intercessors are always welcome. Contact Gale if you would like to join this loving group.
Lay Readers: Lectors come forward from the congregation during worship and read scripture lessons at the lectern. Intercessors read the Prayers of the People. Lay Readers serve at the Sunday morning services and other services throughout the church year. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, annie@holy-trinity.com; 336-272-6149 x 239.
Oblation Bearers: Representatives of the congregation bring the people’s offerings of bread and wine to the Presider to place on the altar at each service. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, annie@holy-trinity.com; 336-272-6149 x 239.
Stillpoint Band: Led by Riley Walker, the Stillpoint Band leads worship during our Stillpoint service on Wednesday evenings. To get involved, contact Riley at rileyandjan@aol.com.
Ushers: “Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” Romans 15:7 Ushers are often the first face someone sees when arriving at church, so this ministry is vital to welcoming people to Holy Trinity. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, annie@holy-trinity.com.
Wedding Guild: The Wedding Guild works with the clergy and engaged couples to choreograph wedding ceremonies and ensure they unfold in a smooth and beautiful way. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, annie@holy-trinity.com.
